"Anstralia 1" was conceived as a still, after accidentally discovering that I could draw with live ants. A beautiful notion, considering how often I work with dead insects.

I prefer to think in, and make still images, so it was only during the shoot that it became obvious that a time-based, moving work was needed, as well, for a different story. Over time I felt the need to explore different aspects of the unfolding narrative in combination with different editing approaches - I love 'Versions'. The Anstralia-suite DVD is a collaboration with Suzon Fuks of 'Igneous' [http://www.igneous.org.au] and Reinier Brekelmans in the Netherlands [of former underground ambient/ dance project 'PWOG'] who composed the soundtracks.
I am extremely happy about this collaboration with an artist whose music was (and is) soundtrack to and inspiration for significant parts of my life and work.

As a kind of homage, to acknowledge the influence music has on my work, the Anstralia-suite DVD is formally structured and packaged like an EP, containing 4 remixes.

The Anstralia-suite DVD, and stills, were launched at the Qld Centre of Photography in 2007.
