Following on from document|monument, Krautrock is the second body of compositions of my growing [and decaying] collection of remnants of local micro-wildlife: Insects, feathers, bones, seeds and other plant matter.
After the focus on creature and/or species and predominantly environmental and ecological concerns, and after the restraint of individual input and personal signs of expression in document|monument, Krautrock regards the subject matter as wholly allegorical and is essentially personal and sentimental.
Using the flatbed scanner as camera to record the 'traditional' tableaux compositions, I manipulate the calibration mechanism of the scanner's transparency unit.
This manipulation not only results in unpredictable colours, at times it also recompiles the image, overlaying, ommitting and distorting parts. It also creates a complex interplay of transparency and opacity, interacting with the different physicalities of the subject matter. No filters or effects of image editing software have been used.
This methodology visually reflects the essence of
"Krautrock: also known as 'Kosmische Musik', ... a generic name for the experimental music scene that appeared in Germany in the late 1960s and gained popularity throughout the 1970s, especially in Britain." (Wikipedia)
Though most of the music that shaped my consciousness is not 'Krautrock', it shares a similar approach regarding electronics and experimentation in general, as well as conceptual depth: Challenging mainstream conditioning and increasing universal awareness. Krautrock is homage to My 80's [and 90's], to ideas, feelings and concepts which initiated me into my [sub]culture, which is at yet unnamed - though Krautrock is a fitting working title.
Images are titled:"song- or album-title/s [project/band name.occasional album name]", after works that remain landmarks in my personal mythology and inner ecology.
